Backflow happens when water flows the wrong way, from a property back into the public water lines. A backflow preventer is a device on the water line that lets water move only one way. It helps keep water from things like sprinklers or a lake or canal out of the drinking water.
Over time, parts inside the device can wear out or get blocked by dirt and scale. A backflow test checks that the valves inside still close and hold the way they should, and many water providers require one every year.
R&J Plumbing and Backflow is a Florida Certified Plumbing Contractor, license CFC1428402. Our two certified backflow testers are registered with BSI for the Town of Davie and Broward County. After each test, we explain the results and submit them to the water utility for you.
If a backflow preventer fails its test, we explain what is wrong and give you a written price for the repair before any work starts. Depending on the problem, the device may be fixed with new parts, or it may need to be replaced.
We also install new backflow preventers for homes and businesses, including new business spaces. Estimates are free, and our work comes with a 1-year warranty on parts and a 1-year warranty on labor.
Davie gets its water from more than one provider. The Town of Davie, the City of Sunrise, Cooper City, the City of Hollywood, and Broward County each serve parts of town. The backflow rules for your home or business depend on which one serves it. If you are not sure which provider you have, the Town of Davie has an online map where you can look up your address.
If the Town of Davie is your water provider, every backflow preventer on the property must be tested once a year. The test has to be done by a certified tester who is registered with BSI (Backflow Solutions Inc.). BSI runs the program for the Town and sends out the yearly notices. The tester must also be a licensed plumbing contractor or work for one.
The Town’s guidelines say a backflow preventer is usually needed on:
The full list is in Chapter 25 of the Town’s code. Devices on fire sprinkler lines must be tested by a licensed fire sprinkler contractor or a fire inspection company.
Under the Town’s rules, a property that does not keep up with its backflow tests can have its water service shut off. Other providers, such as Broward County, run their own programs, and their rules may be different.
From our office in Davie, we serve homes and businesses in all of Broward and Miami-Dade counties, including these towns.
